Google Developed a New Tool to Help Veterans Find Jobs

Google has developed a new tool that will help military veterans find better and more relevant jobs, thus creating a more effortless transition back to civilian life.

This initiative is part of Grow with Google, a career and business development program. Veterans can now search the phrase “jobs for veterans” on Google. They can then enter their military job code to be met with a list of civilian jobs that match their skill set. The results may be further filtered by location.

“There isn’t a common language that helps recruiters match a veteran’s experience with the need for their skills and leadership in civilian jobs” stated Matthew Hudson, a former Air Force Civil Engineer and current Program Manager at Google Cloud. “As a result, 1 in 3 veterans—of the roughly 250,000 service members who transition out of the military each year—end up taking jobs well below their skill level.”

This job match tool will make way to career opportunities that may have previously gone undiscovered by military servicemen. In addition, Google will identify businesses that are veteran-owned or led. This will allow customers to better show their support for our countries vets.

In another effort to improve the transition process for veterans, Google.org will be providing the United Service Organizations (USO) with a $2.5 million grant. According to Hudson, this grant will be used “to provide training and career guidance in IT support”.
