How Much Can Disabled Vets Qualify for Under SSDI?

  • If your application is approved, your Social Security disability benefits will include cash payments in an amount determined based on your personal earnings record. Average payments range from $1,000 to $1,200 a month. The average benefit our Veterans receive is $1650. Higher earners who paid higher FICA taxes will get a larger benefit.
  • After collecting disability benefits for 24 months, you will become eligible for Medicare, regardless of your age.
  • If you have children under 18 years of age, they too can qualify for a benefit up until their 18th Birthday.
  • You may also qualify for retroactive pay, also known as back pay.  Social Security may pay back benefits up to 1 year prior from your application for Social Security Disability benefits.
